Step 1: Throw him in the dirty towels pile. (It's a good idea to wash him with soft, light colored, fabrics.)

Step 2: Load him in to the washing machine with detergent and turn it on Regular or Gentle wash. (I used Tide detergant with Mountain Spring scent.)

Step 3: Take him out and let him air dry! Your Wampa is clean!

I went to the Chalk Gallery Escape Vans Artist reception Saturday night. Chalk is located in Venice, CA. It is a great space, good vibe, with awesome artist. The DJ was busting out with live record scratching! (someone even did some freestyle! Who was that? They layed it dowwwn).

I had some friends in the show and also got to meet some very talented graffiti artists. I got to shake the hand of CRE8 and have a chat with Haste, check out their work on Drew Brophy's Paint Shop. At the end of the night, I sat down at one of the live art tables to paint a thank you card for the gallery. Thank goodness the gallery knows what my real art looks like because my thank you card looked like a 4 year old painted it haha! Still getting use to using those Sharpie and Uni Poscas paint pens, which are really cool by the way.

When two artist go to the L.A. Natural history Museum

On Tuesday I went to the L.A. Natural History Museum to sketch Dinosaurs with Keith Noordzy. There are two floors full of Dinosaur skeletons at the museum. I just couldn't believe how HUGE some of them were and that they were REAL. They seem so unreal when you see their massiveness in person.

I tried to take a picture of the Apatosaurus, but he/she didn't fit all the way in the frame. Apatosaurus is basically a Brontosaurus, but when they named it a Brontosaurus, they had put the wrong head on it or something (Keith informed me). Now that it has the correct parts, it's called a Apatosaurus and is my favorite Dinosaur, but I will probably continue to call it a Brontosaurus.

We both did some sketches while we were there and of course I couldn't leave with out taking fashionable pictures and drawing a furry animal.

My Photographs of Jupiter

Last night Jupiter was in full view! To the naked eye, it looked like an extremely bright star sitting slightly under the Moon. I was looking at it through a telescope in my backyard and thought I was looking at Venus! but didn't understand why Venus had four other planets orbiting it. I came inside and googled. Duh. I was looking at Jupiter and it's four Galilean moons!! After doing some reading on Jupiter's moons, I was very excited to discover they have ice, water, rocks, volcanoes... a lot like another planet that has LIFE on it, Hmmm (EARTH.)

Keep in mind that, Jupiter, at it's furthest from Earth, is over 900 million miles away!! That's almost a billion miles. Well that's what scientist say, but I feel like it's closer than that because I can see it through a telecsope in my back yard! Amazing.

Here are the pictures I took of Jupiter. I held my Canon PowerShot SD880 IS to the lens of an Orion Explorer 90mm AZ #9029 Altazimuth Refracting Telescope. This is the same way I captured my pictures of the Moon. http://noelill.blogspot.com/2011/09/moon.html

The first photo is how I saw it through the telescope except I could see it's four moons as well. They didn't seem to show up in my photograph. The second picture is a close up of Jupiter and the final picture is over exposed, but you can see three of it's moons. I guess my camera lost one of them. They looked like stars in perfect orbit around the planet.

I've rediscovered Fractals and will never forget about them again. This will help me a lot with painting especially trees and really organic shapes. It seems as though even the most chaotic shape on earth has a blueprint and is really not chaotic at all. Fellow artist and designers, you will find this episode on Fractals really interesting! My Halloween Illustration of a Raven

Last weekend I went to CVS with my mom and saw a Raven eating tater tots in the parking lot. All week the Raven has been stuck in my mind, so today I decided to paint it. Although it was doing something so unappealing, like eating someone's left over fast food, I still found the creature to be very glamorous.That is why I chose to leave the tator tots out of the picture. I decorated the background with splotches of red ink to give the piece a more sinister feeling in honor of Halloween.

Tonight I took some pictures of the moon through a telescope with my little Canon PowerShot. Seeing the moon that close is amazing! It's so not like earth. It made me feel like I was in a space ship looking out the window. I even saw a piece of space debris fly by! At first I thought it was a bug, but that's silly because if a bug were to have flown in front of the telescope it would've blocked the whole lens. Ha!

This season, artist and animator Bryan Brinkman flew in from NY to work with us on The Life And Time Of Tim. You might recognize him from Jimmy Fallon's Twitter experiment. Pumpkin Spirit

I do believe the Pumpkin Spirit floated by and since I can't take a picture of him, and for some, the Pumpkin Spirit remains invisible, I decided to draw a picture of him. Ancient Aliens

I've always been interested in extraterrestrial life. It could of started with the reese's pieces alien ads back in the 80s, or maybe because of E.T. (even though I never really liked that movie because its so sad), but I became really interested when I witnessed a UFO 11 years ago over the mountains near my home town. I saw it with three other people. We all knew it was a UFO, there was no question about that, and I would of just figured it was something NASA or the air force had made, but it completely fell from the depths of space like a falling star and the way if moved was like nothing I had ever known to be possible with the kind of gravity and force we have on this planet.

After that event in my life, it was confirmed that UFO's do exist. Now I'm on a part time search to find out where they come from.
I've probably watched way too many Sci-Fi movies in my life time and Fire In The Sky scarred me for life. The aliens in that movie were not nice. So with all this stored in to my brain, I'm not surprised I dream of aliens. Not frequently though, in fact I haven't had an alien dream in about a year. My last alien dream was very vivid and for the first time ever, I drew a quick sketch of the alien I saw in that dream.

I dreamt the world was falling and this alien was holding my hand. When I woke up, it was early morning and I turned over in my bed to find the alien starring right at me!!! "No way I must be still dreaming!" so I forced myself awake again! and this time I was for sure awake. It was still early morning and the alien was gone. My friend and fellow co-worker, Eric Anderson, wanted to know what the alien looked like. I decided to draw a picture of it to show him. Now I'm sharing it with you.

Comparing Big Foots

Ambam the silverback gorilla at the Kent animal park in England has taken to walking up right like a man! Now that there is some nice clear footage of a real live primate walking up right, we can compare the footage to the famous Patterson Big Foot. Watching the two back to back, the Patterson Big Foot looks even more like a hoax (as much as I want to believe it's real). The Big Foot is too light on it's feet for a creature that would scientifically weigh more than a human. The footage is also very shaky, which is always a good sign of a hoax. See for your selves how Ambam the Gorilla's swagger is a bit more heavy than the Patterson Big Foot. In conclusion, Ambam is a REAL BIGFOOT!!! Now if only someone can get clear footage of an albino gorilla in the Alps doing the same, we will have found the Yeti.

Cheeseburger Friend

I asked him if I could draw the creature that might be wearing the cheeseburger earring and he said "haha please do!" So this is the creature I created, ready to try on that cheeseburger earring! I'll see if I can get a picture of the earring that Michael drew so I can share it with you all.

It's now 2011. I'm excited to be living in the days the 1960's considered to be "the Spacey future"! Households are not run by robot maids in space and Aliens have not invaded yet, but we do have ASIMO the robot and iPads. Now I'm excited to think about what will be the future 60 more years from now! We humans continue to develop new ways to make life more convenient, but things really never change, the world is still as colorful as it was before there was color film. Here is a little video I put together of my brother (aka Bullseye Bronson), cousins and I , playing a game of Croquet- New Years Day 2011 in sunny, Pasadena, California.

Today they are having voice over auditions here at The Life and Times of Tim. I enjoy these days because actors and comedians, I recognize from the T.V., come in to the office and sit in chairs and pet all the dogs and stand around in the kitchen. It's so cool!!

I recently did another drawing trade and this time it was with my cousin Ryne Norton. The arts run in our family as you can see and no one is hipper than this kid. He's only in his early teens and sometimes I can't differentiate his tweets from US Weekly's tweets, that's how hip he is.
So for this drawing trade we had given each other requests. This was super fun and exciting to see what each other would come up with. I told Ryne I would like a portrait of Ben Barnes (UK actor, Narnia, Prince Caspian) and Ryne said he would like me to draw a portrait of his favorite band She & Him (Zooey Deschanel, M.Ward). As usually we blew each other away with our pieces of artwork. I knew Ryne would do something amazing with Ben , but I had no idea he would make a super pop-art powered, color crazed Ben!
I love it so much, I'm framing it and it's going on my wall. I had fun depicting one of the sweetest gals in show biz, I focused on Zooey's bangs and baby blue eyes.

Herbert Sherbert Attends Plush You L.A.

Last thursday night was a blast! I had two, plush, Herbert Sherberts in the Plush You L.A. show at Munky King toys on Melrose in Hollywood. The show was a site to see, curated by Kristen Rask owner of Schmancy Toys in Seattle, WA. So many talented artist that had not only design skills, but major sewing skills. I couldn't even see where they tied their threads off! The clean, white walls of Munky King were filled with color! My favorite. Herbert Sherbert himself was able to attend for a short while to greet guest. He had so much fun and got really excited when he saw the ice cream truck serving ice cream right out side the door! I had to take him home after that, before he devoured the whole truck.
The plush for sale is said to be avaiable for purchase on the Munky King website. So look for that soon and also, enjoy the short video above of Herbert Sherbert's adventure in Hollywood.

Drawing Trade with Kyle Christopher Roy Green

Last week I got an unexpected, but pleasant surprise email from an artist/sk8ter named Kyle Christopher Roy Green. He asked me if I wanted to do a drawing trade. I took a look at Kyle's blog and instantly fell for his style and subject matter, so I replied to his email with a "Yeah Sure!"
For any one who is not sure what a drawing trade is, it's when I draw something and then you draw something and instead of selling it to one another, we trade :) like the old'n days.
The rules for the drawing trade was that there wasn't any, but Kyle hinted that he likes cats smoking and I hinted I liked the ghosts he drew and here is what we came up with...
This is the cat-terpillar I drew for Kyle. It has a dust of magic sparkle on it, but you can't tell from the scan.

and Kyle sent me a package of goodies, including a water-colored print, stickers, one in particular with Kristen Stewart's face on it and of course the wonderful original water-colored ghosts drawing, arm pit hair and all!
In conclusion it was a pretty awesome trade and he is now an artist ally.

This is my version of a baby predator monster. It's teeth obviously would not be in yet and it wouldn't have a lot of hair.. or whatever they have growing out of their heads. Cute, but still kinda scary.

Animation Short

I began working on an animated music video for the band Palmer Electric (Eric Howk from The Lashes) about a year ago. I created the artwork digitally in photoshop, then animated it in a stop motion style. Stop motion takes forever!! especially if you are the only person working on it and also have two other jobs going at the same time. So I never finished the project, but who's to say I never will. For now it's just a short clip of a helicopter's journey through the arctic. Enjoy! (click image to view)

I've been sewing away making two special edition Herbert Sherbert plushies for the up coming Plush You show. It's the first time the plush show will be in L.A.! I'm really excited because it's all plushies!! It's going to be a room filled with magical plush and furriness. I took some work in progress shots to share with you. I completely hand sewed everything because the fabric I was working with was very soft and slipped underneath the sewing machine, but hand sewing makes them much more special. Super Rainbow Sherbet 'Herbert Sherbert' and Coconut Cutie 'Herbert Sherbert' (20" from head to yeti toe) will be debuting at Munky King August 26 for 100$ each. I'll post more pictures when they are finished with their fancy hats and all.

Last Night's Party

Finally home on a Friday night! I got a chance to watch Tim! Last night's episode looked so good. We had our fourth illustrator on board to work on these two and I think they looked the best! Eric Anderson made a great addition to our team. It really showed.
I worked on the Coney Island background and the fortune telling backgrounds. I also got to draw Debbie with a swollen neck! and Tim in his little summer outfit with the white tank.

I Watched Tim Last Night

I haven't been home the last two Fridays so I missed Tim! Last night I was flipping through the channels and there he was on HBO. So I watched the Pharmaceutical Sales Rep episode and then went on demand to watch Salty Jazz and Jews Love To Laugh. I'm really proud of the interior of the Japanese Restaurant I created in Jews Love To Laugh. The colors were bright and awesome, keep a look out for that if you happen to watch that episode. It's all the little things that I love about the show. Like when Tim gets a pitcher of Margarita poured down his throat in Salty Jazz and the pop corn I drew popping in the microwave, I love seeing it get animated. Even though I worked on the show, I still don't get to see the episodes fully animated before they air, so I'm just now seeing things for the first time. It's so much fun! I can't wait for next weeks episode, there is an elephant in it that I drew! If you follow my twitter, you'll finally realize why I was tweeting about clowns and elephants last year :)

My good friends Marquis Howell and his wife Nicole Howell own a very classy vintage shop in downtown Redlands, CA. called Hobo's Vintage. Last Saturday I attended Nicole's Gypsy themed birthday party and it was a hoot! I had so much fun and everyone was dressed so mystically. (That's me below on the left.)

There was cherub children running around playing, a bon fire, torches, lanterns and Marquis supplied the gathering with gypsy fiddle playing. There was even a fortune teller! I was so inspired by the gypsy theme I created these two pieces.
This ink drawing and acrylic wash was a mini portrait of Nicole and I presented it to her as a birthday gift.

and this piece, also ink and acrylic wash on paper. This one is going to be in the grand opening show of Ghost Gallery in Seattle WA. It's called Madame Raquel. (click on the image for a closer look.)

dpi Magazine is an art and design magazine from Taiwan. It's such a cool magazine! When they sent me my copy, I enjoyed looking at the other artist that were also featured in this months March issue ( the theme was Whimsical Forest Carnival! sounds amazing). I discovered some really cool new artist and hopefully they discovered me :) Keep it up dpi!

Psychedelic Easter Bunny

I decided to go water color in my backyard for fun, just to get fresh air and to take a break from the computer. well, here's what came out...It's some type of psychedelic Easter bunny and he's blue!! ahhh like an Avatar!? I don't know why I chose blue, but I do know these factors contributed to the painting: I started out painting with soft colors like pastel blue then I felt like I couldn't see it so I just went all crazy. To top it off, there was no yellow or black in my odd set of water colors. I actually don't even know where this box of water colors came from, I just found it in my cupboard. I only used one, flat, size 16, brush.
If you look at his right eye, it seems to have collected a puddle of water under it which makes it look like he has a sleepless bag under his eye. Go figure, I had trouble sleeping last night so I do believe I've magically captured myself in this particular piece.

Tim Gets Shot In The Arm!

Yes! in this weeks episode of The Life and Times of Tim, Tim gets shot in the arm! crazy, I know, but I won't tell you who does it. If you haven't seen it, it might come as a shock to you. Poor Tim, I felt so bad having to draw him get shot in the arm, but he's ok now. Did you notice he's wearing a t-shirt design with the owl from my Moon Willow painting? We throw in fun stuff like that on his T-shirts. Always pay attention to Tim's T-shirts. They have little sayings or shameless promotions on them.
In Pharmaceutical Sales Rep, my favorite scene was the car crash! it came out so well, animators you did a great job!
In Amy's Got A Gun, I drew the outside of the movie theater (omg wasn't that movie hilarious?!) and that creepy mugger that steals Amy's gun. I also remember drawing the hospital scene background, where Tim is sitting in his hospital bed. That was pretty interesting seeing as I don't hang around hospital rooms very much, in fact I avoid them, so all my reference was from pictures I found on the internet. I hope I was able to at least give a good impression of a hospital room. I have no idea what all those gadgets on the wall are for, but...they looked good. (cue ending Tim credits song here.)

Girl Scout cookie time!

Finally I get a chance to talk about last Friday's Tim episode- Episode 14: The girl Scout Incident and Rodney Has a Wife?
The Girl Scout Incident aired just in time for Girl Scout cookie, selling, season. My favorite girl scout cookies by the way, are Caramel deLites! yuumm and the peanut butter ones..Mmmm. Ok, ok, enough of that! now back to the episode. I was in charge of drawing the rental car background in The Girl Scout Incident. There were three initial shots. A wide shot, as if you were looking from across the street, a close up and an interior shot. (wish I had a picture of it, but if you watch you won't miss it.)
Here is another fun fact: The little boy scout that kept sneezing in between lines was not intentional. The actor actually kept sneezing during the voice over sessions, but it was so funny that the writers kept it in! I love the kid's voices, they all did a great job.
I'm keeping this post short. So in Rodney Has a Wife I got to design and draw Rodney's blue Camaro decorated with the naked gal on the hood and all. I have to give it up to our illustration team, This episode looked so good with the ice hockey scenes!

Style Time!

Fireman/lady and Greeting Cards?

If you didn't catch the Life and Times of Tim last night (episode #13) you have to go find it and watch it! It had so much hidden goodness. For Legend of the Month, the first thing I worked on was the female firefighter. I was given her head by my art director and from there I got to completely draw and design her body and NY firefighter's outfit and helmet. It was actually a lot of fun referencing firefighter's clothing, they get to wear a lot of cool stuff. The cat (Sergeant Tibbs) was modeled after my late cat Snowflake. The cat's name, Sergeant Tibb's, is actually the name of one of the other illustrator's (Bonnie Lui) real life, cats that was named after the cat in Disney's, animated, 101 Dalmatians (got that? wow! so cool how that stuff comes together!). During the scene after Tim is rescued from the fire, there is a news crew outside of his apartment building. The guy filming with the camera is the character created based on my brother whom does a lot of filming in real life! So I was thrilled when the editors sneaked him in for a cameo! (sometimes a lot of secret, fun stuff gets edited out).

In Marie's Dead Husband I got the honor of drawing the purposely, terrible, watercolor painting on the front of the greeting card which was later revised with a bright orange sky. It's suppose to be Marie sitting in a rocking chair looking out towards the ocean with one of her cats sitting on her lap! (totally nice and cheesy.)But my most favorite scene is the scene where Tim is in his kitchen cooking up some disgusting tuna casserole concoction. I put him in his little cooking apron and basically got to make the kitchen a mess. I hope you all get a chance to watch! and stay tuned for next weeks episode!

Last nights episode of The Life and Times of Tim had two of my favorite characters in it, The Priest and Debbie!!
In The Comeback Sermon, some things to look for: I drew the bed that Tim and Stu are sleeping in, Tim in his snazzy, church, sports coat, Debbie's apartment with those cheesy purple, butterfly curtains and the tuna melt that the Priest is eating at the Diner. In Atlantic City, I drew the interior of the bus! which was really fun to do, I enjoyed designing the ugly confetti pattern on the seats. I drew the wide shot of the outside of the second Casino (It took two days do draw and color and went by in two sec! haha!) and the last noticeable thing I remember drawing, in this episode, was the old man and his mobility scooter that swooshes across the screen. I wish I had a picture of him, but you'll just have to catch it when it re-airs, or on demand.

Some things to look for in Last Nights Tim Episodes

So, in last nights episode, Tim has a Beard, I drew Gladys clipping her toe nails! Gladys is the gross lady that Tim goes out on a date with and while they are at the hot dog stand, there is a character of myself drinking a soft drink and wearing my H&M striped black and red sweater.
In the Drama episode, I drew the killers apartment and decorated the murder scene with all the knives everywhere and I also drew the actress in the pink dress when she does her dramatic crying scene. I love that part!

Send In The Clowns show in San Clement was fun! look at my little painting surrounded by crazy clowns! After the show, Holden Westland of Tiki Farm held a special VIP after party at Magoomba tiki bar. There I am serving a Mai Thai and posing in front of all the tiki mug magic. Magoomba is a cozy, tiki bar, wonder created by designer Bamboo Ben.

Super short notice! but I'm going to have this new piece in a group gallery show called Send In The Clowns. The show is this Saturday (Jan. 30, 2010) in San Clemente. The wacky flyer has more details, but the theme of the show is Clowns!! I love clowns! Never was afraid of them, it was probably due to my trip to Barnum and Bailey's circus when I was little and I saw the clowns putting their make up on. I'll never forget that image, even though I was almost a baby, I still understood that the clowns where just people getting ready to put on a show!

On A Scale From 1 to Tim- This Was Totally Tim

I saw this cactus at the store and decided it would be a nice gift for Steve. Very fitting seeing as there was an episode last season where Tim gave a cactus as a gift although in Tim's case, the gift wasn't received very well.
I painted Tim on the pot. Painting pots is rather difficult, you pretty much can't mess up, but I think it came out great and Steve said it was amazing.

I'll have a few pieces in this up coming group show with Human Pyramids Artist Collective at Ghettogloss gallery on Melrose. Ghettogloss as been a true home for my pieces, thanks to the owner Fiora and her awesome tastes in art. The show is a collection of works of art by artist from around the globe. We are all friends as well so it's going to be such a fun opening! I will be there and I encourage anyone who is reading this to try and make it out for this opening. Beached Seal

This quick sketch was to show my brother the picture I saw in a Ripley's Believe It or Not book. The story was about a Seal that came in with the tide and got beached on top of a pole in the water. It stayed there for 8 hours till the tide came back in and than it swam away.
